J and I recently went to the DMV to get him a state ID, and no joke, we stood in line for over two hours… just to check in and get a frakken “Now Serving” number.
As we got closer up to the front of the line, one of the workers behind the desk announced,
It’s now 3PM. There is no guarantee we will get to your number by 5PM.
Omg don’t even joke like that!
Please make an appointment and come back another day. The next available appointment is next week.
What appointment? Come back another day? But we’ve been standing here foreeeever and we’re sooooo close already… so we didn’t budge.
After another hour of waiting for our number to be called, J finally got his ID and was mighty ecstatic about it… so… as much as I loathe standing and sitting around as my time here on earth gets shorter and shorter… I have no regrets.
(Fast forward about a month. )
I received a postcard from the DMV reminding me that my license will expire on my birthday. This immediately triggered a tightness in my throat and heart… my body pretty much telling me Imma have the most glorious of all anxiety attacks.
Then I remembered the DMV employee suggesting we make an appointment, during our last visit. So I did.
The next available appointment was a week AFTER my birthday… but whatever. Secured that date and crossed my fingers this will help make my upcoming DMV visit much more efficient.
(Fast forward to earlier this afternoon.)
My appointment was at 2:45PM so I got there at 2:20PM (they want you there 15 mins early)… headed straight to the express line (with NOBODY in front of me!) … and the nice person behind the counter told me I’ve been checked in and handed me a number… and within 10 minutes, my number was called!
I was out of there within 30 minutes of arriving! I felt like royalty!
So… if your local DMV office offers free appointments to skip the long line… for the love of all that is sacred to you… MAKE AN APPOINTMENT.
P.S. Lemme know what you think!
